Accommodations are tools that grant students with disabilities access to educational opportunities. They are not intended to alter or lower the standards or expectations of a course of exam; rather, accommodations are designed to assist students with disabilities in learning the same material and meeting the same expectations as their classmates.

Examples of Classroom and Academic Accommodations

  • Accessible furniture and seating in classrooms
  • Accessible instructional and course material, including alternative format texts
  • Assistive technology
  • Audio recording lecture
  • Classroom relocations
  • Disability-related absences
  • Housing
  • Interpreting and real-time captioning
  • Note-taking software - students can checkout notetaking pens.
  • Stingerette paratransit service
  • Testing accommodations

Pregnant or Parenting?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”), 20 U.S.C. §1681 et seq., is a Federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex—including pregnancy and parental status—in educational programs and activities. If you need accommodations related to pregnancy or parenting, please contact the Title IX Coordinator.

Approved Accommodations

Once a student has been approved for accommodations, the students then should request their accommodation letter be sent to faculty via AIM login. The student must schedule an appointment with faculty for student to discuss how accommodations will be implemented.

Meeting with Faculty

Meeting with faculty is an opportunity to discuss how accommodations will be implemented in each class. Faculty do not automatically receive a copy of a student's accommodations letter, and accommodations are not retroactive. Accommodations can only be implemented once the faculty have received a student's accommodations letter, and the student has spoken with the faculty member about their accommodations.

Keep ODS Informed

Students have a responsibility to keep the Office of Disability Services informed of any issues they may be having with the implementation of their accommodations. If a student experiences any difficulty in obtaining or receiving accommodations, or is any additional accommodations are needed, please follow up with ODS by scheduling an appointment through AIM Login.
